Welcome to the West Valley College Men's Basketball website. Here you
will find information regarding the prestigious basketball program at
West Valley College. In the 1990’s, the basketball program at WVC
journeyed from good to great. Hall-of-Fame Coach Bob Burton (now at Cal-State
Fullerton) established West Valley as the premier program in the state
of California. In the last 15 years, WVC has averaged 26 wins per season,
gone to the California Community College Playoffs every year, won 8 League
Championships, participated in 3 NorCal Semi-Final games, 4 NorCal Final
games, made 7 Elite Eight State-Championship appearances, and played for
the California Community College State Championship Title on 4 different
occasions. In that time, our players have received an unbelievable 77
scholarships, and have worked very hard to maintain an extraordinary 98%
graduation rate.
Above its prestige
and accolades, the WVC basketball program prides itself on a commitment
to total excellence, on and off the court. The coaching staff, with the
aide of two full-time counselors, helps to steer players down the correct
road in the classroom. Coaches and Counselors alike are experts in NCAA
rules and regulations and assist players in the challenges that they may
face academically- from obtaining a high GPA, to picking out a major.
The average mean team-GPA is now 3.20. The quintessential focus of the
players is total excellence, and the WVC basketball graduation rate is
a direct reflection of that emphasis (97%). The basketball team is a participant
in various community services. Life-lessons form the fundamental teachings
of the program. They center on the development of selfless, educated,
and well-rounded individuals, thereby developing a higher self-esteem.
This website
is for players, recruits, parents, alumni and supporters alike. The coaching
staff at WVC works very hard to maintain the tradition and level of excellence
that has been established over the years. We are servants to the betterment
of the players and we hope that you find this website useful, educational,
and engaging.
